1.3. New features and changes in IDERI note Version 3.10

Apart from minor Bugfixes, version 3.10 of IDERI note introduces quite a number of interesting new features:

  • There are now three new application styles that ship with the IDERI note client: “Windows® Light”, “Windows® Dark” and “Windows® Auto”. The new default application style for the IDERI note client is now “Windows® Auto”, so the client user interface shows light mode popup messages if the user preferences indicate that Windows® is run in light mode and it will show dark mode popup messages if the user preferences indicate that Windows® is run in dark mode. Note that this new default IDERI note client application style will not affect customers that deploy their client installation using an MSI transform created with the help of the IDERI note client customization wizard from an ini file for a previous version of the IDERI note client, as the ini file will entail the application style used for the previous deployment of the IDERI note client. Of course, this choice for a previously used application style can be changed during the client customization wizard run to use one of the three new application styles instead of the previously used application style.
  • The default look of the IDERI note client has also changed insomuch as it now uses updated builtin IDERI logos unless branded to use custom logos. Note that in order to properly support dark and light mode when running with “Windows® Auto” application style, customers can now optionally supply additional “dark mode” logo files in the IDERI note client customization wizard that are to be used by the IDERI note client and the IDERI note ticker when running in dark mode. For additional information read the updated sections 7.26 and 7.27.
  • The IDERI note client has been overhauled completely with much increased accessibility to provide blind or visually impaired users the same experience that sighted users have. This includes full operability using the keyboard (using the tab key, enter key, escape key and the space key) and meaningful additional annotations for user interface elements. All IDERI note client message display variants (dialog box style, messenger-like popup style and fullscreen style) now pass all tests in Microsoft® Accessibility Insights for Windows® without any warning or error. In addition, all user interface elements of the IDERI note client have been tested extensively with JAWS® 1 and NVDA, the two most popular screenreaders for Windows®. IDERI is committed to improve the accessibility support of the entire IDERI note product line during the release cycles following the release of version 3.10 and the IDERI note development team is happy to receive input from customers on how to improve the accessibility of the product as a whole.
  • The IDERI note administrator has been improved with respect to accessibility as well. The most common scenarios and user interface elements have been enhanced with annotations and accelerator keys for blind users. No errors have been found when testing the IDERI note administrator with Microsoft® Accessibility Insights for Windows® when running in menu mode instead of the default ribbon mode. This does not mean that accessibility improvements for the IDERI note administrator are complete with the initial release of IDERI note administrator in version 3.10. Subsequent versions or patches in version 3.10 can be expected to be released to further improve the accessibility of IDERI note administrator.
  • The IDERI note administration tools now ship with a localized French user interface for the client customization wizard as well as with ADMX templates localized into French.
  • From version 3.10.1656 on, the IDERI note client ships with the inthstry.sbak file. This file contains recommended customization settings for the IDERI note history application to be used with the JAWS® screenreader software.
  • From version 3.10.1656 on, the IDERI note administrator ships with the intadmin.sbak file. This file contains recommended customization settings for the IDERI note administrator to be used with the JAWS® screenreader software.
  • Interested readers can get recommendations for a suitable software configuration of various parts of the IDERI note software suite for visually impaired or blind users in section 7.35 of this documentation.
