1.2. New features and changes in IDERI note Version 4.0
Version 4.0 of IDERI note is a new major version that introduces a multitude of new features and enhancements to the product. Note that for this major version update, new license keys are required. Your old license keys from version 3.x will not work anymore with version 4.0 of IDERI note. As a consequence, make sure you have obtained suitable new license keys from IDERI prior to updating from a previous version to version 4.0, so you can add the license keys immediately after installation to the IDERI note service control panel applet and thus keep the downtime of your existing IDERI note infrastructure as short as possible .
The following is a list of enhancements and improvements in version 4.0 of IDERI note:
In addition to named pipes and a dedicated TCP port, the IDERI note client and the IDERI note administrator can now connect to their IDERI note server via HTTPS (”RPC-over-HTTP”) and thus over the internet using RPC-over-HTTP. The IDERI note client can use RPC-over-HTTP both as an exclusive primary protocol and also as a fallback protocol in case a connection via named pipes or a TCP port is not possible. This way, clients such as laptop computers that during the work day connect to their IDERI note server via named pipes or TCP as their primary protocol, using a company network, now seamlessly switch to a connection via HTTPS after having left the enterprise network as soon as they connect to the public internet. For more information on the prerequisites and limitations of this new product feature please read section 7.1. This feature is only available when running IDERI note in professional licensing mode and in a configuration with subscription licenses only. Without any licenses entered, the IDERI note server still allows up to 5 desktop clients to connect to it and behaves as it were running with subscription licenses only, so this product feature can still be tested without configuring any license information.
The IDERI note administrator now has functionality for an interactive check for updates of the IDERI note product suite in addition to the optional update check that can be performed during login into an IDERI note server.
The IDERI note administrator, the IDERI note command line tools and the IDERI note Hotkey Support Components have been greatly improved in speed and reliability with respect to the resolution of names for users, computers and groups.
Numerous improvements have been made across all product parts with respect to accessibility.
The HTML documentation that is embedded in the chm help files distributed with the IDERI note Administrative Tools now passes the tests with Microsoft Accessibility Insights for Web with no errors or warnings.
The PDF documentation that is distributed with the IDERI note Administrative Tools is now in PDF/A-4 format and passes all compliance checks with VeraPDF for the PDF/A-4 validation profile.
